Justin Shaw is a playwright and comedy writer, who has written a number of solo shows and full length plays. Shaw's initial work as a writer began as part of Playwrights Workshop Montreal as part of the young writers unit.

The Wrestling Play by Justin Shaw

Charles is a discontent English teacher whose wanderlust is only matched by his deep-seated love for professional wrestling. After a life-altering decision to chase his dream of becoming a pro-wrestler, Charles finally steps out of his comfort zone, and into the great unknown.

This piece began development in 2015 with the Playwrights Workshop Montreal young creators unit. It was then featured in the 2017 Island Fringe Festival where it earned the Patron's Pick distinction. It was later featured in the 2017 Alberta Culture Days at the Suncor Energy Centre for the Performing Arts. In 2019, it was featured in Edmonton's Nextfest Arts Festival, then in Fort McMurray's Midnight Madness as part of the YMM Food Festival. Most recently, it was presented in St. Peter's Courthouse Theatre on Prince Edward Island.

The Rite of the Rabbit (a short) by Justin Shaw

The Rite of the Rabbit tells the story of three mischievous rabbits who attempt to perform the Rite of the Rabbit by telling what they believe to be the true origin of the moon rabbits. 

This project was a piece featured in the Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo's igNIGHT Festival (2019) and was presented in front of the Intrude art installation at the Snye Park in Fort Mcmurray, Alberta.

Spare Change by Justin Shaw

Justin Shaw takes his audience on a mad-cap journey on what it means to let go admit that they have no idea what they are doing, while challenging what it really means to listen and be present with someone in need.

 

This performance was part of a Spare Change: An Evening of Comedy held on April 4, 2018 at the Keyano Recital Theatre. This event was a fundraiser presented by Some Other Solutions, a mental health and crisis prevention non-profit located in Fort McMurray, Alberta. Funding for this event was made possible by Suncor.

Half A Star by Justin Shaw & Benton Hartley

A half a star review of their theatre performance rips apart two best friends and collaborators who, after a strange turn of events, must reunite and bring the show back on its feet.

This play was written and performed by long-time friends and collaborators Justin Shaw and Benton Hartley, and was presented at the 2018 Island Fringe Festival.

This production was presented by Theatre; Just Because in support of Waypoints Family Crisis Centre located in Fort Mcmurray, Alberta. Proceeds for this event were used in the funding of a new state-of-the-art women's shelter.

Ahoy! A Pirate's Life For Me! by Justin Shaw

Captain Truman is excited for the inaugural voyage of the S.S Mortas, a former warship turned cruise ship, that is set to take on the high seas. However, with the unexpected arrival of menacing pirates, Truman soon discovers that his past has a way of catching up with him...
